Best-selling cars of 2010
I recently found an enjoyable post by Mark Spirek, posted earlier today, and entitled Best-selling cars of 2010 that I encourage all of you to read. I’ve included a few little excerpts to whet your appetites!
Chevrolet Silverado (includes Heavy Duty) 370,135 (17) 3. Toyota Camry 327,804 (-8) 4. Honda Accord (includes Crosstour) 311,381 (8) 5. Toyota Corolla (includes Matrix) 266,082 (-10) 6. Honda Civic (includes coupe, Hybrid) 260,218 (0.8) 7. Nissan Altima (includes coupe)229,263 (13) 8.
Now then, reading Mark Spirek’s article started me thinking so I googled for some more posts on the subject and discovered some more greats! i.e. this post posted yesterday, by Jim Motavalli, over on Green Earth Awareness:
And it was still the second-worst sales year in almost 30 years. If you’re looking for a green trend in American car buying, it’s hard to spot it in these results. Sales of crossovers have largely supplanted that of big, less efficient SUVs, but there’s no huge swing to hybrids and economy cars. The best-selling car in 2010 was the Toyota Camry (327,804 sales), trailed by the Honda Accord (311,381).

The Prius is Japan’s biggest sales success in two decades. We "get" the Prius, too (and that’s why they’re expanding the lineup with a minivan), but the Japanese pay twice as much for gas. The common wisdom is that the return of $4 a gallon gas will cause another swing to fuel sippers (as it did in 2008), but it’s $3.25 at the corner filling station now without raising too much excitement. It will be interesting to see if the Detroit Auto Show, which I will be attending next week, is as green as the last two years — or will those F-150 sales loom large? My guess is that the electric vehicles (EVs) are here to stay. It’s interesting that the SUV owner in this video says she’s heading for a divorce.
Yet another fantastic post came from Jacqueline Star over on webhostingreviews posted earlier today, entitled The 2011 Volvo S60 Is Volvo's Most Dynamic Car which is also definitely worth a look.
The engine will be the most powerful that Volvo has ever created. Acceleration is a breeze with this car and it goes from 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. The ride is smooth due to the Dynamic Suspension and the cabin is incredibly quiet. Fuel economy is at 17mpg in the city and 26mph on the freeway. The cabin is crafted out of the finest materials with a large amount of space.

The front seats are constructed to provide great back support. There is a display center on the center stack and just two dials in the instrument center. Trunk capacity is at 12 cubic feet and the rear seats fold down for additional cargo space. The most advanced safety features are included such as a Side Impact Protection System , the strong side structure of the vehicle helps to withstand a severe side impact. Care for pedestrian safety was engineered into the structure of the car; the front is smooth clean lines and a low engine position to help minimize the impact with pedestrians and cyclists if an accident were to occur. The steering wheel is collapsible in case of an impact in order to reduce driver harm. The anti-submarining feature prevents passengers from sliding under their seatbelts during an accident. Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver if the car is swerving out of the driving lane and Driver Alert Control helps to prevent collisions due to fatigue.

Volvo’s groundbreaking Collision Warning system is in place with Full Auto brake which actually detects pedestrians and applies the brakes when there is an imminent collision, even if the driver fails to do so. An advanced navigation system can be added which fits into the docking unit. Some graphics such as buildings are displayed in 3D. A Rear Seat Entertainment System can be installed with dual DVD players. This system consists of two LCD monitors and DVD players built right into the headrest of the front seats.
