This Week In Cars ? The Holden Commodore, Mitsubishi’s electric …

Comment CITROEN WORLD RALLY boss Olivier Quesnel believes Kimi Raikkonen is capable of making a significant impression in his debut season and progressing to the manufacturer s senior team in 2011

Earlier I came across an excellent article posted earlier today, by admin, and entitled This Week In Cars ? The Holden Commodore, Mitsubishi's electric … that I suggest everyone reads. Here’s a couple of little extracts in the hope of piquing your interest!

This week, JRR and Crystal recap news and announcements including the Holden Commodore coming to the US, Mitsubishi’s electric hybrid SUV, and Mercedes planned eco-supercar. Plus they highlight the top racing news like GM’s possible return to World Rally Championship. In the “Strap In” segment they show videos of all the new electric cars and the weird sounds they make! The “Junk in the Trunk” segment features scratch covering stickers, the new Jaguar iPad app, and a horse in a car? For more information, show notes, and schedule visit www.thisweekin.

Now then, reading this started me off thinking so I did a google search for some more posts on the subject and discovered some more greats. e.g. Citroen DS3 WRC | autofeat.com posted yesterday, by masminto, on a blog called Review used car wallpaper and Modern car Specification:

Where we’re concerned we won’t be starting the first event in an overambitious frame of mind. So far we’ve only raced in two winter rallies, and it’ll be difficult to compete on an equal footing with the Scandinavian drivers. Even if it’s a long term objective I’m not obsessed by winning the world title. On the other hand, I want to score points in each rally, be among the front-runners and gain more experience in the WRC.” Questions to Frédéric Bertrand,Citroën Racing client/competition manager“The Citroën Racing Trophy will be held in 10 European countries”After two very successful years, is the Citroën Racing Trophy ready for another season? FB: “Since it began in 2009 the Citroën Racing Trophy has continued to attract newcomers with over seventy crews entered last year.

 [...]

How will it be integrated into the Citroën Racing Trophy? FB: “In 2010 the DS3 R3 raced in several events, each one of which had a particular specificity. The aim was to test the car in different conditions and also assess its potential in a real-life environment. The results were very positive as the DS3 R3 won its category on five occasions, and finished on the podium in the overall classification in the ‘Rallye du Valais’ in extreme conditions. So it’s ready to compete in the Citroën Racing Trophy and we’ve already received several orders. The fact that eleven DS3 R3s are taking part in the Monte Carlo Rally is ample proof of its success.

Yet another fine article on the subject came from prices on ESPN in the UK posted two days ago and entitled JON DESBOROUGH TO HOST ESPN'S WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP – ESPN … which is also certainly worth a look!

Jeroen Oerlemans, vice president and channel manager, ESPN, Europe, the Middle East and Africa said, “Jon’s experience as both a sports broadcaster and a passionate fan of the World Rally Championship, makes him a natural in this role. As a familiar face to sports fans in the UK, we’re delighted that Jon will be hosting our coverage as we add another great piece to our motorsports portfolio in the UK.” Desborough, who will also continue in his role at Sky News, will debut on ESPN when the World Rally coverage begins on 11th February with highlights from the opening round of the 2011 season in Sweden,  including coverage of the first live ‘Power Stage’ on 13th February.  ESPN’s coverage will bring new elements to WRC this season, including: Live coverage of the Sunday Power Stage for up to13 rallies (and on a same-day delay in cases of schedule conflict), including original ESPN studio commentary surrounding the live coverage; 30-minute highlights show on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the week of each rally, capturing the action from each day; 60-minute previews and review shows for each rally throughout the season.   Each of the 13 events will be previewed in a one-hour news, features and highlights programme – ‘Rally World’ – the week prior to the rally. The week following a rally, fans can watch ‘Access All Areas’ – a one hour look at the event showcasing the best of the action, in depth features and analysis. Specific production details for ESPN’s coverage are in development and will be announced in the run up to the start of the WRC season.
