Earlier today, I discovered a great post posted earlier today, by admin, over on The Cars 4 Causes Blog. Car Donation Program Nationwide. entitled Cars 4 Causes Thanksgiving Food Drive | The Cars 4 Causes Blog … that I strongly encourage all of you to read! I’ve included some little extracts to pique your interest!

The food drive was held from October 25th to November 19th, with drop boxes located at County Commerce Bank locations throughout Ventura, as well as Cars 4 Causes® headquarters.  We worked in conjunction with Project Understanding because they have a great operation that makes sure those in need receive emergency food supplies when needed. Team Cars 4 Causes® members gathered all of the overflowing drop boxes and, together with our executive director, Pat Jessup, delivered them to Project Understanding, just in time for Thanksgiving. Rob Orth, Executive Director of Project Understanding met Team Cars 4 Causes® at the entrance to the Food Pantry where staff members from both organizations unloaded the food items and together stocked the Project Understanding shelves in anticipation of their holiday need. “People in need come directly to the food pantry. They go through a brief interview process so that we can understand their need for emergency food. They usually receive enough food to last three or four days,” explained Mr.

While we were stocking the shelves a young mother with 4 small children were receiving their emergency food supply. The biggest thanks was to actually see how our hard work and donation is used to directly help those in need during this holiday season.  Team Cars 4 Causes® is a dedicated group of caring employees and volunteers that come together to support local charitable causes.  Another way Cars 4 Causes® gives back to the community.  Cars 4 Causes®, “The Charity That Gives to Charities,”® is America’s first vehicle donation charity.

Reading admin’s post started me off thinking so I did a quick search for some more articles on the subject and found some more gems! e.g. this post by Andrew Calvo, posted last week, on Passions Of A Zealot:

#3 The Metro Bank (Commerce Bank) Concept Metro Bank was launched with the tag line of “Love Your Bank At Last” and has a 4-point Metro Bank Promise: 1) Surprise and Delight every customer 2) 7 Day Banking 3) No Stupid Bank Rules 4) Satisfaction Guaranteed. There are a few things that to this day prevent me from leaving TD Bank, and those are the things that Vernon Hill pioneered through Commerce Bank and will further refine with UK Metro Bank .. 7-Day Banking and Extended Hours – I can bank on Sunday afternoon,  meaning, if I have a question on my account, I can walk in and see an account representative on a Sunday afternoon. Need a cashiers check? Same thing – no waiting for the next banking day. How about if I’m off on a holiday – Columbus Day, or Labor Day for example – great day to go to a bank right? TD Bank agrees – and that’s why there are lines in the drive-thrus and always a few people waiting on line to see a teller inside.

Finally, another fine article on the subject came from Ross Currier on Northfield Downtown Development Corporation posted earlier today and entitled NDDC Board Visits Premier Bank – Northfield Downtown Development … which is also certainly worth reading.

For our twelfth monthly business visit for 2010, the NDDC board dropped in at Premier Bank, located just up the east block of 5th Street from Division.  It’s so close to the Rueb’N’Stein that “J. Grundy” didn’t even have to put on a jacket. Although we had scheduled the visit with local Vice President Travis Nettum, we were fortunate that President (and third-generation family-owner) Casey Regan was in town for the morning.  We got to hear about both the local branch and the Minnesota system. The bank started shortly after World War II  in Maplewood.  There are now 20 locations throughout this part of Minnesota, with multiple locations in the Twin Cities and Rochester. Both Travis and Casey said they were really impressed with the amount of economic activity in a small town in southern Minnesota.

 [...]

They said that “south of the river” communities are often overlooked but there is a surprising and substantial degree of independence from the metro area. As for what they like about Northfield, they said it is an unusually welcoming community, commercially, residentially, and socially.  They noted how many invitations new-comers receive from community groups.  As a result, they say that businesses are well-networked, both formally and informally in Northfield. When asked about challenges they face in Northfield, they immediately brought up commercial property taxes.  With their wide variety of locations in Minnesota, they see a variety of situations.  They say that high commercial property taxes often lead to high small business turnover in communities.

 [...]

They also encouraged us to continue creating and supporting events that bring people downtown.  Finally, they said they’d consider working with the city and the community to increase the availability of parking. Premier Bank would like to have a bigger footprint in Northfield.  Times are currently challenging for banks, Premier has reduced their employee count by 40% during this recession.
