Reading George Tyler’s article got me thinking so I searched for more articles on the subject and uncovered some more greatarticles. i.e. How can I learn about car audio systems? by admin, posted earlier today, on a blog called SpotBlots:

Question by David L: How can I learn about car audio systems? My car has no sound system, no speakers, no radio, nothin. Anyway, I want to put a good one in myself. Problem is, I’ve never done anything with audio systems before so I’m going to have to learn it all before I start. Does anyone know a good website where I can find some info about it? Thanks. Best answer: Answer by a man in needThis site will help you build a box, wire subs and amps, and has a discussion place where you can ask more questions. Another fine post on the subject came from unknown on salsmexicaninn.com posted earlier today and entitled Risks of Installing Your Car Sound System which is also definitely worth reading!

The fact is that there are people that are professionally trained in the installation and proper handling of these delicate sound systems for a reason. If it weren’t a difficult task they wouldn’t be able to demand the rather hefty price tag that most installation centers charge. The problem is that mistakes can actually cost more than the installation. If you aren’t one hundred percent certain that you can handle the installation process alone it is best to leave it up to the experts. To prove my point, I will give you my very own personal story of how car stereo installation can go horribly (well, perhaps hilariously would be the better choice of words in my particular situation) of course. You see I wanted a CD player in my mini van about 13 years ago. This was back in the dark ages when these types of sound systems were still relatively new and on the ‘cutting edge’ when it came to technology.

 [...]

Anyways, my father ended up installing my new audio system in my van – that was until I realized the horn didn’t work, and in order to actually use the CD player, the headlights had to be turned on. Now that you’ve finished laughing I’m sure you can understand why I am a huge advocate for having professional handle issues of installation when it comes to auto sound systems. It isn’t that my dad, whom I love dearly for the effort, was incompetent when it comes to technical matters, in fact, he is highly skilled in these sorts of things ordinarily, it is simply that car stereos are so terrible complicated that it takes more than merely reading a set of instructions in order to get the maximum effect from your installation endeavors. There are many other horror stories – particularly ones involving damage to the dash board. Many amateur installations like these can result in unnecessary damage that can end up costing more than a professional installation. While many drivers don’t have a lengthy commute, there are many of us out there that do. For these drivers it is often very important that they have the best possible car audio security systems for their vehicles. Aside from music and entertainment, they are crucial for finding out the latest traffic updates and weather conditions.
