What Are Concept Cars
Earlier today, I discovered a lovely post by dombirwat, posted earlier today, over on Bird Watching Advice entitled What Are Concept Cars that I strongly encourage everyone to read! I’ve included some excerpts in order to pique your interest!
October 24th, 2010 Posted in Travel and Leisure For many years now folks have been fascinated by what amazing vehicles can be discovered in motor shows across the world. The vehicles that cause people to stop and take a second glance are not often the vehicles they will end up owning, rather they are vehicles that the car manufacturers have developed purely to wow the buyers, test reaction and make use of future ideas, and of course try and make sure their brand just a little more in mind then the next, these vehicles are named concept cars. Concept cars began life during the 1930s when Harley Earl, a General Motors employee, designed a car not for building, but only to display how a car could be in the future, that concept car was named the Buick Y Job. Harley Earl went on to style and represent these vehicles throughout his long career with the concept car idea really taking off during the 50s.

Clearly the concept cars that Earl and other designers put together were not meant to be put into production, but were simply an example in what might be achievable in a road car at some point in the years ahead. Given the freedom of not having to be worried with safety, fuel consumption levels , weight, practicality and cost of production, the concept car designer can allow his creativity to go crazy, and that is the reason we regularly see some concept cars that look like they belong in a different era entirely and obviously will never be built as a road car. Clearly with little barriers to what they can dream up, concept car designers rarely hold back and the designs can often contain features and materials that are not usually associated with vehicle production, including materials such as carbon fibre and even gold. Designs regularly have layouts that break away from the usual car designs, sliding or gullwing doors, unusual seating layouts, abstract shapes and numerous other styling features that are not found in regular showroom vehicles. Clearly, concept cars are pretty much an imaginative view on that which could be possible in future car styling, and lots of concept cars attempt to smudge the boundaries between what would be expected in a typical car we purchase in the forecourts and concept cars with impossibly out of the question styling or functionality. While most concept cars will not get anywhere near being manufactured, there are the odd few examples that influence what we drive on our streets, and its the excitement of spotting something incredible, that in a different era could be a real option, that keeps both concept car designers, and the buying public, both absolutely hung up on concept cars.
Now, reading dombirwat’s article started me thinking so I did a quick search for some more articles on the subject and found some more greats. i.e. Home theater seats ? eight questions to myself, home theater … posted last week, by a, on a blog called Theater:
So you got your new widescreen tv, your new speaker system, and brand new HD-DVD or Blu-ray player. You are ready to transform your basement into a home theater room that you and your family can enjoy. What could possibly be missing? Have you considered dedicated home theater seating? The addition of home theater seating will transform your normal family room into a home theater paradise. The following questions will help you make wise decisions in choosing seating. 1.

Do I want a home theater lounger or a classic movie theater seat? – An overstuffed home theater lounger will provide the ultimate in class and comfort with a variety of different options while a movie theater seat will more closely replicate the local movie theater seating and will take less space then a lounger. 2. How much space do I have available? – Make sure to measure your available space and then compare various seating layouts. Home theater seating typically comes in sets of 2, 3 or 4 with or without a love seat configuration. If space is an issue consider the wall hugger feature which allows the chair to recline with very little space needed behind the chair. 3. How much am I willing to spend? – There is a wide variety of options that will affect the cost of home theater seating which can range from several hundred to several thousand dollars. 4. Do I want a manual or powered recliner? – A powered recliner will allow you complete control over your recliner similar to the power controls of a car seat. 5.

What color and type of fabric do you want? – Home theater seating is available in a wide variety of colors and fabrics with leather and micro fiber being the most popular. 7. What are the kids going to sit on? – While the kids can certainly sit on whatever home theater seating options you choose for yourself, you might want to consider dedicated child loungers or themed recliners to give them a personalized seat for the movies, while saving a few bucks over the more expensive home theater seats. 8. Can I consider shopping online? – While the thought of purchasing online can be a bit daunting, with a little research you can save significant amounts of money without sacrificing quality or choices by ordering online. As you can see there are a lot of things to consider when adding home theater seating.
