BMW recalls 140.000 cars because of faulty fuel pumps
I recently found a great post by adi, posted back in November, and entitled BMW recalls 140.000 cars because of faulty fuel pumps that I would suggest all of you read! Here’s a few extracts in the hope of piquing your interest!
BMW calls back 140.000 cars with N54 engine because of fuel pumps that don’t work properly. The models recalled are 2007, 2010 335i, 2008, 2010 135i and 535i models, X5 and X6 models with X-drive. All of the cars recalled are using the N54 engine, which is a straight 6-cylinder turbocharged motor that develops approximately 300 BHP. BMW owners in the USA have been complaining about rough starts and engine stalls for about three years now. BMW has tried to quietly fix the problem but the media has found out about this.

The German manufacturer expects that not all the cars recalled will need new fuel pumps, but they would rather be safe than sorry. A faulty fuel pump could lead to an engine stall, which is a major safety hazard. The car is rolling on Michelin Pilot Sport tires which are in great condition and quite sticky. In going through the previous owners receipts, I found that the engine had been replaced by Difeo BMW in January of 1999 after a tech had damaged it during service. This repair was done at 69,870 miles and included a new longblock, clutch, guibo and universal joint. It drives fine right now, but this is the stuff I would do if I was keeping it: Front Shocks $65each for KYB $130each for Bilstein Sport RF thrust arm bushing $35 part Napa Driveshaft CSB $65 part OE Bilstein/Febi Rear muffler $200 part AB Total $365 in parts to make it awesome.
